The 2008 vintage of Miss Harry is sourced from traditionally grown vineyards dating back to the late 1800s in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The 2008 vintage was characterized by the extreme heat of early March that swept across the south of the Australian continent. Fortunately, the old, deep-rooted vines of the Barossa Valley and in particular the Hewitson old vineyards of Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre and Cinsault accepted their fate without blinking. They had seen it before and will see it again. These varieties are historically grown in the hot southern Rhone Valley of France near the Mediterranean, and are normally blended together to make the local wine. These varieties have a natural affinity for the Barossa Valley.
The vineyards were picked at optimum maturity, fermented separately on their skins before finishing fermentation and malolactic fermentation in old French barriques then matured in these same barrels for about twelve months without racking. These are Hewitson traditional methods that intensify flavour and complexity. The final blend comprises almost equal portions of Grenache and Shiraz with minor balances of Mourvedre and Cinsault. This vintage sees the introduction of the latter variety to the blend.
The 2008 Miss Harry continues the success of this beautifully structured, fruit-concentrated red wine that delivers wholeheartedly in a very approachable style.
The colour is bright red with a purple hue. The aromas are high tones of ripe strawberry, black and red forest with layers of creamy complexity offered by the extended barrel maturation on lees.
The palate is wonderfully full, showing ripe strawberries and plums, and has a concentrated core of fruit essence with a racy acidity that gives the wine incredible vivacity. The finish is exceptionally long. 2008 Miss Harry is quite an exceptional wine and is absolutely world-class.

What the critics think

2008 - (A blend of Grenache and Shiraz, with bits of Mourvedre and Cinsault). Vivid red. Strongly aromatic nose displays scents of fresh red and dark berries and Asian spices, plus a gentle smoky quality. Pinot-like in freshness, with tangy raspberry and cherry flavors and a solid mineral underpinning. Repeats the lively red fruit notes on the finish, which is brisk, focused and admirably persistent. Score: 90 points

2007 – “Elegant wine that is all about the textures- silk, satin and a hint of velvet - to its supple medium-bodied palate; the flavours are of cherry and plum, the oak subtle.” Rating; 94 points
