This wine displays a little less of the Clare Valley dark chocolate/spice, and more of the sweet berry perfume of the Barossa. With its traditional richness, balanced by some nice soft tannins, the wine has coffee mocha notes on the nose that sweeten up in the glass. Rich, plump mid palate with savoury flavours. To compare the ‘05 to ’06, they could be summed up in a reasonably simplistic sense by saying the ’05 vintage represents the Burgundian view of the world where as the ’06 are firm in the Bordeaux camp. More classic tannin structures are apparent in the ’06 and the wines, whilst remaining normal weight are more muscular than the pump ‘05’s.
