The 2005 vintage was the best vintage in the Geelong region for over 30 years. The ripening period was long and extended with good warm but not hot temperatures in March thru to April. The temperatures plus welcome rain in February helped the vines produce grapes with dense flavour and fine tannins. The colour of the wine in deep black purple. A perfumed nose of violets and liquorice allsorts followed by white and black pepper. On the palate the flavours of white and black pepper become quite intense overlaid with confectionary, vanilla and spice, with liquorice allsorts on the back palate. Excellent length and persistence. The fruit for the 2005 vintage was sourced from the Indra Block on the Lethbridge Estate vineyard. This block over the years has produced fruit of intensity and structure which sets it apart from other parcels of fruit. The vine material planted has been selected from some of the oldest shiraz clones in Australia. The Indra block is also co-planted with 3% Viognier vines making the Indra Shiraz a field blend of Shiraz Viognier.
