Wines intended for this blend, particularly the Grenache and Mourvedre, are given a slightly different oak treatment than our ‘norm’. Less new oak is used, and the barrels are larger, which lessens the impact of oak in the wine overall. As a result, the subtleties of the vintage and varieties become more apparent and the wine relies more on the strength and quality of the grape. The aroma is a well balanced and integrated blend of red berry fruit, earthiness, spice and a hint of leather. The palate has a very nice round, full mouth feel with very good underlying tannin providing structure and length to the wine. Whilst drinking very well now, this wine will benefit from short term cellaring (1 – 3 years).
