Varietal Sangiovese
Closure Screw Cap Size 750ml
Alc/Vol 14.5% Enjoy Now - 2016
The nose is dusty, spicy black cherry compote. Cherries, raspberries and a dash of anise and dark chocolate combine on the palate. Fine chalky tannins complete this wine carrying an attractive hint of earthiness.
McLaren Vale experienced cool conditions in December 2008 and most of January 2009 with temperatures only climbing above 30 degrees on three days up until a hot spell in late January. The rest of 2009 summer was relatively mild allowing the fruit to develop with balanced characters. This wine was fermented using traditional plunging techniques followed by an extended maceration on skins. The wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak for 12 months. The 2009 Sangiovese is from a neighboring vineyard nestled in the foothills of McLaren Vale just off the Kangarilla Road. The vineyard is trellised to vertical shoot positioning (VSP) in order to create dappled light on the fruit and maximise airflow so critical for this variety in order to achieve an even ripening.
