The Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is aged for four years before it is released. This allows the wine to slowly stabilise and mellow and the tannins to soften. The CSM has classic dark berry aromas and flavours and is nicely harmonised. It’s very savoury on the palate, complex and elegant, but not without the typical richness inherent in this attractive blend. Restrained bramble, mulberry and blackberry aromas combine with slightly cedary oak notes. The seductive fruit mingles with fine tannins and integrates oak across the palate. Like all great cabernet merlot from the Willyabrup area this wine features delicious fruit, subtle power and elegance throughout. The finish is lingering dark fruit and very satisfying.

2001- My favourite of this trio is the complex, St. Julien-like 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. It’s dark ruby colour is followed by a big, sweet perfume of cedar wood, tobacco leaf, black currant and vanilla. 2001-A peak vintage for this Margaret River five-way blend, which includes cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. Dense, concentrated, fleshy fruit and extract, gutsy yet elegant. 2001 -Pierro cabernet comes from Willyabrup, the very best place in Margaret River for Bordeaux red varieties. Always a more savoury Willyabrup cabernet blend than some of its illustrious neighbours, Pierro continues in that mould in 2001. It has black and redcurrant fruit on the nose along with clean earthy, herbal and light smoky-barrel aromas. A marvelous wine that is so close to the top it almost doesn’t matter.
