The 2007 Descendant is another impressive release of this wine, the colour making that immediately apparent; completely black/purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues.  A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets.  Full-bodied with great concentration, silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, this vigorous and suave young wine has a long, long future ahead of it.

The vineyard was planted with cuttings from one of the old RunRig vineyards.  The Shiraz is crushed on top of the Viognier from the same vineyard, which has been lightly pressed for blending with the RunRig. The blend of fruit is then co-fermented and later the wine matured for 18 months in 2 ½ year old French barrels that had been previously used for RunRig.

What the critics think
“The 2007 Descendant is composed of 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier sourced from a single vineyard. Super-fragrant with a fl oral lift from the Viognier component, it gives up exotic scents of smoke, bacon fat, Asian spices, and wild blueberry. Voluptuous on the palate with loads of succulent fruit (a rarity in this challenging vintage), it has impeccable balance and 4-6 years of aging potential. It will be at its best from 2013 to 2027.” Rating 94 points
Robert Parkers – Wine Advocate

2007 –“Inky ruby.  Explosively perfumed nose displays scents of dark berry preserves, kirsch, sassafras, violet and black olive, with a suave vanilla undertone. Broad, chewy blackcurrant and mulberry flavors are framed by velvety tannins and energized by spicy mineral and cracked pepper notes. Juicy and sweet but solidly built, with strong finishing lift and urgency. Really hangs onto the palate, leaving floral and spice notes behind.” Rating 94 points
