Grown on the sandy loams of the Concongella creek and the cooler Salvation Hills sites, the Great Western Riesling shows the balance of power and finesse which speaks of the region.
Light straw colour with green hues.
Citrus, freshly cut grass and lifted florals on the nose.
Palate showing lime and lemon blossom characters, strong mid-palate flavours sitting aloft a line of natural acidity, balanced and long.
Cellaring: This wine has previously shown an ability to gain further complexity and aged regional characters as time goes by.

What the critics think
2009 – “Riesling has long been planted in the Grampians, Colin Preece making wines of note in the ‘40s and ‘50s. More recently Langi Ghiran has had great success. Nonetheless, the region is not as well recognised as it should be for the variety; this wine marries generously of fruit and flavour with a tight, focused finish; the flavours are of ripe citrus, verging on tropical, and the wine will develop smoothly over the next few years.” Rating; 93 points
James Halliday – The Weekend Australian Magazine – December 2009

“Great Western Riesling doesn’t have the slashing burst of flavour that, say, Clare Valley Riesling has, but it’s a legitimate style nonetheless. In fact this is a lovely wine. It has flavours of apple, pear and limes and with its spicy edges it comes across as slightly exotic. It has casual, effortless length and an excellent sense of shape to it – it’s like a Frisbee of flavour, curving through your mouth. There’s even a pebble-like character to the aftertaste. Wines like this shouldn’t be ignored. Rating; 91 points
Campbell Mattinson – The Winefront – September 2009

“SA dominates the quality Riesling sector in Australia, so it’s easy to overlook Victorian styles. This gorgeous wine from the Grampians region is fresh and vibrant, with aromas of lemon peel and spring grass. The fine balance between fruit and acid makes for a harmonious wine”
Qantas Way (On-board magazine) – December 2009
