The hills surrounding the city of Adelaide were planted to some of South Australia's very first vineyards in the 1800s. Most of these disappeared as demand shifted to red varieties planted in warmer regions. However, today the cool climate and fertile slopes of the Adelaide Hills are recognized to match perfectly the demands of growing the best Sauvignon Blanc.
The Hewitson LuLu Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is superbly situated between Hahndorf and Mount Barker amongst the highest and coolest slopes within the Adelaide Hills. Proudly single vineyard, LuLu articulates the perfect expression of this variety in what is now generally regarded as Premier Sauvignon Blanc region within Australia.
The grapes were picked in immaculate condition in late February and we absolutely timed this harvest to perfection. After a cool fermentation, the wine naturally settled and was then cold-filtered before bottling on 20th April, not even two months after harvesting. 2010 LuLu Sauvignon Blanc is a beauty showcasing the vibrancy of this variety with our single vineyard expression and racy acidity. This wine illustrates our belief that great wine is expression of single vineyard and vintage. This is a beautiful wine and if comparing this wine on a world stage it is proudly Adelaide Hills and a long way from New Zealand in distance, geography and style.

What the critics think
2010 - "It's hard to imagine a white that more perfectly expresses Adelaide Hills Sauvignon. Sourced from a single vineyard in the high, cool slopes of the Hills between Hahndorf and Mt Barker and named for owner, Dean Hewitson's wife Lou, it almost bursts with exuberance of youth. Fragrantly floral with a hint of talc, this is fresh, clean and pure, with intense white tropical flowers. It's powerful, weighty and tangy, finishing with fine, zippy acidity that refreshes."
Peter Forrestal - Gourmet Traveller Wine - Aug / Sept 10

2009 – “Offers predominant citrus and grass aromas on the bouquet, but there is also a touch of tropical fruit; all these characters come through on the palate, that has thrust and drive to the cleansing finish.” Rating: 94 points
James Halliday – The Australian Wine Companion - 2011
