The aim for the Ménage series wines is to produce a wine true to its site while being within the overall house style of Lethbridge Wines. The fruit for the 2008 Ménage Que Syrah Syrah (Shiraz) was sourced from Oakdene’s vineyard at Wallington, Geelong. Medium deep dark red in colour. Vibrant red fruit and cherry characters on the nose. Balanced, earthy dark fruit characters on the palate. Good breadth across the palate before a long lingering finish. While highly enjoyable now will also stand some cellaring. Cellaring potential 2-5 years. Hand-picked from vines yielding 1.5 tonnes/acre; the fruit was 100% crushed and destemmed. Pre-fermentation maceration ensued for approximately 7 days until indigenous yeast fermentation started. Fermentation was followed by 7 days post-fermentation maceration, the wine pressed straight to barrel (30% new French oak, 70% older French oak).
