The wine that ROCKS!

Scoring a whopping 96 points from James Halliday

in the new Australian Wine Companion 2011

The colour is deep rich red with strong crimson meniscus. An intense and complex nose showing liquorice, plums, spice and a hint of black pepper character. These are harmoniously backed by quality French oak characters of char and cedar. On the palate this is a rich and powerful wine with robust structure. Spicy plums and dense mulberry fruit flavours are balanced by the quality French oak characters. Spice and a hint of clove run through the palate. The wine has great structure with excellent balance of firm, robust tannins and fine acidity, beautifully integrated with wonderful length.

2007 – “Excellent crimson-purple; an altogether impressive wine, that has all the cool climate indicia of spice, pepper, plum and licorice, and also the texture and supple tannins that Castle Rock lacked in bygone years. Increased vine age plays a part, along with skilled winemaking born of experience.” Rating: 96 points
