by Farr wines are made exclusively from grapes sourced from Robyn and Gary Farr’s own vineyards. The by Farr vineyards have plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Viognier (all varieties are a mixture of clones and rootstocks). The aspect of the vineyard is north/northeast and undulating. The soil is volcanic loam over limestone and in some sites the limestone dominates the loam. They are well drained and of low fertility. They compare well with the best sites for pinot noir and chardonnay anywhere in the world. Thirty years experience, attitude and attention to detail, produces extraordinary individual complex layered wines. The philosophy behind the by Farr wines is persistence, patience and passion. The Geelong region held the first plantings of vines in Victoria and while the history of the vines in the region has seen its good and bad times the fruit grown is of premium quality and unlike any in the state.
