Wine Maker
Lindsay McCall
Lindsay and Margaret McCall began their incredible journey in 1984 with the purchase of a derelict orchard in Paringa Road. In the search for this property, their requirements included a north facing slope, a permanent running creek and adequate wind protection.

The first vines were planted in 1985 and by 1990 the 10 acres (4.2 hectares) were fully planted. The first vintage occurred in 1988 with 3 tonnes of fruit. The 2000 vintage was made up of 32 tonnes of Estate grown fruit and 46 tonnes of purchased fruit from a number of local growers.

Winemaker Lindsay McCall had his first vintage in 1988 processing a mere three tonnes of fruit. With no previous winemaking experience, it involved a very steep learning curve.
The early success of Paringa Estate wines was a testimony to Lindsay’s passion and intuitive feel given that he managed to 10 acre vineyard and made the wine while maintaining a full time teaching job through until the end of 1995. In 2005 the total crush was 155 tonnes with the majority of the fruit coming from two leased/managed vineyards in Callanan’s Road and Paringa Road, but with the original 10 acre home vineyard still producing the premium quality fruit.

Lindsay’s gift for winemaking has seen his wines receive many awards. In 2006 Paringa Estate was awarded “Winery of the Year” by James Halliday in his Australian Wine Companion 2007.

What the critics have to say!
*Winery of the Year* - James Halliday Wine Companion - 2007

“Schoolteacher-turned-winemaker Lindsay McCall has shown an absolutely exceptional gift for winemaking across a range of styles, but with immensely complex Pinot Noir and Shiraz leading the way. The wines have an unmatched level of success in the wine shows and competitions Paringa Estate is able to enter, the limitation being the relatively small production of the top wines in the portfolio. His skills are no less evident in contract winemaking for others.” Rating 5 Star
